The Demographic Research Unit, in the California State Department of Finance, is
looking to fill a vacant demographic research position. Although there is only one
position vacant at this time, we expect additional retirements in the next year. The
hiring process in California consists of two parts: establishing eligibility, which
in this case is determined by an application and a training and experience
questionnaire, followed by hiring interviews. The announcement covers two levels,
the Research Program Specialist II (Demography) and Research Program Specialist III
(Demography). These are higher level positions and reflect California's desire to
add skilled demographers.

Under open exams at: http://www.dof.ca.gov/career_opportunities/current/view.php
look for the link for the demography posting. The link to the "Questionnaire" is
immediately below the posting
(http://www.dof.ca.gov/career_opportunities/current/documents/TEQ[5].pdf<http://www.dof.ca.gov/career_opportunities/current/documents/TEQ%5b5%5d.pdf>).
Applications must include:

... a complete examination application package that consists of the Examinations
and/or Employment Application (Std. 678, http://jobs.ca.gov/profile/stateapplication
), Training and Experience Questionnaire (TEQ, see above link), and the Affirmation
Statement (see above link) to the Department of Finance, Human Resources Office, 915
L Street, Suite 1235, Sacramento, CA 95814. Resume and/or Curriculum Vitae are
optional, but encouraged. College transcripts are also optional, but any
demographic and statistics courses and the level completed should be indicated on
the application or resume. The complete examination application package must be
submitted and/or postmarked by October 23, 2012, the final filing date. The
examination application package filed in person, delivered, or received via
interoffice mail after 5:00 p.m. on the final filing date will NOT be accepted for
any reason.

For those not familiar with Northern California, Sacramento is located about mid-way
between Lake Tahoe and San Francisco. Sacramento joins the American and Sacramento
Rivers, is close to the Napa Wine Country, Yosemite National Park, and offers an
extensive bike trail (snow is usually confined to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where
ski resorts are plentiful).
