 Position Announcement – Assistant Professor of Rural Sociology, Penn State
University



The College of Agricultural Sciences is filling a tenure-track faculty
position in Rural Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor with a 40%
teaching and 60% research appointment. The successful candidate will be
expected to develop an internationally recognized research program that
draws on her/his expertise in rural communities and livelihoods, including
in one or more of the specific areas of community resilience, community
sustainability, community development and community entrepreneurship,
including farm and other businesses and livelihoods. The candidate will
also be expected to teach 3 courses per year in undergraduate or graduate
programs. Ph.D. in rural sociology, sociology, demography, community
development, or related field preferred. Applicants should provide evidence
of strong potential for conducting and publishing research, being
competitive for external research funding, excellence in research methods,
teaching effectiveness and strong interest and skills to mentor and advise
graduate students, and interest in and ability to contribute to
interdisciplinary research collaborations in one or more areas central to
the College of Agricultural Sciences strategic plan, including
sustainability, integrated health solutions, human and community
connections, and citizens’ socioeconomic well-being. An ability to relate
to a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students is required. Salary
