*The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control *(CDC Injury
Center), Division of Violence Prevention (DVP) is seeking a Director for
our Division of Violence Prevention.



This is an Excepted Service position under Title 42.  Applications will be
accepted from all groups of qualified persons, including non-citizens and
Public Health Service Commissioned Officers.  No previous federal
experience is required.  This appointment does not confer any entitlement
to a position in the competitive service and no entitlement to Merit
Systems Protection Board (MSPB) appeal rights.   Executive level
compensation package is commensurate with qualifications and experience,
which may result in a higher salary than reflected above.

DVP seeks to prevent violence through surveillance, research and
development, capacity building, communication, and leadership. DVP's work
in violence prevention involves monitoring violence-related behaviors,
injuries, and deaths; conducting research on the factors that put people at
risk or protect them from violence; developing and evaluating the
effectiveness of violence prevention strategies, programs, and policies;
helping state and local partners plan, implement and evaluate prevention
programs; and conducting research on the dissemination and implementation
of evidence-based prevention strategies, programs, and polices. Please

*Duties of the position include**:*

·       Serving as a principal advisor to the NCIPC Director and the senior
management team on DVP activities to include strong leadership experience
in creating a vision and setting direction in a scientific organization to
include leading organizational change, leveraging divergent positions in a
manner which contributes to overall organizational effectiveness.



·       Demonstrated experience in one or more scientific disciplines that
involved public health such as having conducted complex precedent-setting
research and/or evaluations with far reaching implications for public
health. Personal record of significant contributions to the fields of
disease prevention, public health, epidemiology, toxicology, environmental
sciences, social or behavioral science.  Examples might include senior , 1st
or co-authorship on peer reviewed scientific publications, presentations at
major national and international conferences, leadership positions in
influential professional societies, membership on advisory boards or
committees, invited editorials, commentaries or other manuscripts,
consultations for influential organizations or journals.



·       Developing and implementing national, state or local policies,
programs and research related to the assessment and development of research
studies and projects; utilization of data to evaluate intervention or
prevention strategies; utilization of state of the art laboratory
techniques; data collection and statistical analysis; authorship of
guidelines or policies based on scientific evidence; and/or authorship of
evaluations of public health programs.



·       Experience in directing and managing a complex public health
research organization, including establishing strategic plans and policies,
developing and presenting budgets, evaluating program accomplishments and
building and maintaining a diverse staff as well as running the day-to-day
operations related to the conduct of Division programs



·       Experience in dealing effectively with high level government
officials, the scientific and academic communities, national or
international medical and health-related organizations, diverse community
and non-government groups and the public at large.
