Job Announcement - Assistant Research Scientist



*The Center for Sexuality & Health Disparities* (SexLab) at the
University of Michigan invites applications for a non-tenure track
Assistant Research Scientist position. The candidate must have
interest in the psychosocial, structural, contextual and behavioral
factors associated with sexual health. We define sexual health broadly
as a state of physical, emotional, and social well-being in relation
to sexuality, and encourage research that utilizes a positive and
respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, and
encourages pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion,
discrimination and violence. The Assistant Research Scientist will be
a member of the SexLab team, and will participate in several studies
focused on sexual health with a particular focus on HIV/AIDS and LGBT
health. He or she will also be mentored and encouraged to develop
his/her own research projects and pursue his/her funded research.  The
incumbent is expected to take a leadership r!

 ole in preparing manuscripts for publication, offering technical
assistance to community partners, conducting mixed-methods analyses,
and collaborating on future grant proposal writing.



The mission of the Center for Sexuality & Health Disparities (SexLab)
is to conduct applied social research on sexuality-related health
disparities. Our studies seek to identify innovative strategies to
inform sexual health promotion interventions and decrease other
sexuality-related health disparities.  The Center is housed at the
University of Michigan - School of Public Health, and has partnerships
with community-based organizations, local health departments, and
health service and advocacy groups.



This is a 12-month appointment.  Two years of full funding will be
provided, with the expectation of establishing an independent research
program alongside SexLab faculty during this time. Interested
candidates should send a letter of intent identifying primary area of
research interest, curriculum vitae, a statement of current and future
research plans, and two representative publications to Dr. Jose
Bauermeister (jbauerme at umich.edu). Review of applications begins
September 15 and will continue until position has been filled. The

Duties:

·         Produce publications for peer-reviewed journals as first or
collaborating author.

·         Participate in data management and analyses of on-going projects.

·         Supervise students and lead teams of university and
community colleagues in preparing grant proposals; analyzing and
interpreting data; and writing up the results for publication.

·         Lead and assist in proposal development to federal, state,
and local funding agencies

·         Develop research reports and presentations for academic,
community, and policy audiences.

·         Work collaboratively with SexLab faculty and staff.



Qualifications:



Applicant should possess a Ph.D. in public health, psychology,
sociology or related behavioral disciplines, and have a strong
interest in HIV/AIDS and/or LGBT health research with adolescents and
young adults. Strong quantitative and/or qualitative skills and
research experience are preferred.  Applicant must also possess
excellent communication and collaborative skills and be able to work
flexibly as part of a team in a fast-paced research environment.
Evidence of scholarship such as publications and involvement in funded
research preferred. Interested candidates should send a letter of
