Dear Center Director,



I want to alert you to a Visiting Professor position at our institution
that would be an excellent match for someone with demographic training. We
are looking for a scholar to collaborate with me and Professor Sojung Lim
on a research project, and also to teach courses in social inequality and
statistics. The teaching load is a modest two courses per academic year.
The research project is negotiable, but will likely include topics such as
job quality, family-related stressors, sleep hygiene, metabolic syndrome,
or another health behavior/condition of mutual interest.



This is a terrific opportunity for recent graduates of your Ph.D. program
to gain teaching experience and build a research portfolio. It is also an
opportunity for a more established member of your faculty to work in a
different context and enjoy a year or two exploring Utah (including its
five national parks), Yellowstone (just a four hour drive from Logan), and
other nearby attractions (such as the Sundance Film Festival). As a
Colorado native and outdoor enthusiast, I am biased – but most of our
faculty and students find that this is a wonderful place to live and work.

Aside from teaching two courses per year, the main expectation is that the
Visiting Professor will contribute substantially to the aforementioned
research project. However, there are other quality opportunities for
research collaboration on campus, including my current NIH-R01 funded
project that explores longitudinal associations between sleep and body mass
with 30 years of polysomnographic and survey data from the Wisconsin Sleep
Cohort Study. There is a lot of flexibility with respect to research
activities. Ultimately, we want to support the wishes and career trajectory
of our Visiting Professor.
