Dear Jennifer,

I wanted to alert you (and all your colleagues in demography at Berkeley)
to the fact that Florida State University enjoys a very unusual hiring
situation this year! I refer you to the already-posted job ad:

http://coss.fsu.edu/sociology/jobs

which outlines the FOUR positions for which we are recruiting this year,
TWO of which are explicitly demography-related. We need somebody who can
gradually take over the graduate-level formal demographic methods courses
by the time I retire in a couple of years; these courses currently
alternate between myself in the Sociology department and Carl Schmertmann
in the Economics department (both of us Berkeley grads). The texts we have
been using in recent years include both Sam Preston's and Ken Wachter's
books. We also are looking for a demography of migration specialist, but
these can be (and in fact probably will be) two separate people.

Both the demography hires will have the opportunity to affiliate with our
Center for Demography and Population Health, which celebrates the 50th
anniversary of its founding by Charlie Nam in a few weeks. We would hope
that the new faculty would be able to contribute to the research grant
portfolio of the Center. The last year or two have seen the arrival of
several other promising young faculty (from other departments as well as
Sociology) as CDPH affiliates, and a lot of exciting and innovative work is
going on here!

Please publicize these job listings to any likely candidates, okay? It
would be great to find another Berkeley grad to join the program here!

Regards,

Woody Carlson
