The UCLA Center for Health Policy Research (the Center) has an outstanding
opportunity for a *Data Quality and Survey Methodology Manager *in Los
Angeles, California. The Center, which was established in 1994, is based in
the School of Public Health and is the premier source of health policy
information for California. The Center is one of the nation's leading
health policy research centers and the premier source of health policy
information for California.



The Data Quality and Survey Methodology Manager, will have primary
responsibility for the *California Health Interview Survey (CHIS)* survey
methodology and for ensuring CHIS data quality. CHIS is one of the nation's
largest ongoing health surveys and is conducted by the UCLA Center for
Health Policy Research in collaboration with the California Department of
Public Health, California Department of Health Care Services, and the
Public Health Institute. The incumbent may also consult on related issues
for other surveys conducted and used at the UCLA Center for Health Policy
Research.



*Responsibilities: *

*Data Quality and Survey Methodology: *

• Evaluate and document data quality of the California Health Interview
Survey (CHIS).

• Explore and develop methodologies to implement to improve and assess CHIS
data quality.

• Update and maintain the Data Quality web pages on the CHIS website.

• Collaborate and consult with survey Principal Investigators,
Co-Investigators, Directors and other representatives from federal, state
and local public health agencies, and private research organizations on the
validity of survey results and quality control issues, the improvement of
the overall survey methodology, and planning changes to survey methodology
for future CHIS cycles.

• Collaborate with Center statisticians, statistical
consultants/programmers on issues of statistical design, data analysis and
other data issues.

• Collaborate with survey subcontractor statisticians on the development of
data quality strategies and post-survey statistical activities.

• Responsible for the technical assistance provided to CHIS funding
organizations, local health departments, and other researchers who use CHIS
data.

• Work with the CHIS team in the documentation of methodology and technical
assistance reporting in interim and final progress reports to ensure the
terms and conditions of the award are met.

• Present on CHIS survey methodology at internal meetings and external
meetings to include the CHIS Advisory Board, Technical Advisory Committees,
APHA, AAPOR, etc.

• Author and co-author methodology reports, technical documents and
peer-reviewed journal articles on methodology findings.

• Explore external collaborative projects and external funding for
methodological studies.



*Supervisory Management: *

• Directly supervise research and technical assistance staff.

• Develop, plan and direct the work of all support staff, including
providing technical advice and supervision, problem resolution, and review
of and feedback on quality of work.

• Responsible for all hiring, training, performance evaluations, and
disciplinary action for support staff.



*Qualifications: *

• Graduate degree in survey methodology, social science or related field

• Demonstrated experience working with complex surveys and large data sets

• Experienced in survey data production, weighting, imputation, response
rate calculation, variable construction, data file management, technical
documentation and quality control

• Excellent writing and analytical skills and oral presentation skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of statistical methods and data collection
techniques related to the administration of survey projects

• Excellent computer skills in statistical programming (SAS, SUDAAN, Stata,
SPSS), data management and other document processing programs

• Previous supervisory experience, including demonstrated ability to
develop, plan and direct the work of various levels of support staff and to
provide technical advice and supervision, problem resolution, and review of
and feed-back on quality of work

• Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and to take initiative
