Job Description

The newly created Center for Health Equity will align efforts in advancing
health equity across the City and ensure that we deploy resources to reduce
health and mental hygiene disparities across all neighborhoods in NYC. The
Center will work in collaboration with community-based partners, building
on work the District Public Health Offices and others have pursued over the
years. The Center will focus on these key areas: leveraging community
assets to better integrate primary care and public health to serve the
health needs of communities; building inter-agency collaboration to
implement multi-sectorial approach to addressing the root causes of health
disparities; and increasing organizational capacity that strengthens the
agency's lens of addressing health equity.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

--Oversee the Community Partnership, Emergency Preparedness and Resiliency,
and the Community Health Worker Initiative teams.
--Assist in evaluation and planning activities to increase awareness,
knowledge and integration of health equity in the Bureau of Systems
Partnerships.
--Develop a clear collaborative line with the Director Health Equity in All
Policies and will ensure both units work cohesively.
--Within the unit create a comprehensive and strategically sequenced set of
Health Equity capacity building tools and resources that will be shared
internally within the Center for Health Equity and externally with local
partners and organizations.
--Present and report public health data to institutions, foundations,
consultants, and agencies to better leverage funding and capacity building
opportunities.
--Identify areas for strengthening system change strategies; •Represent
the bureau/division at external meetings, coalition tables, conferences.
--Proactively seek out funding opportunities to sustain and establish
capacity building activities, initiatives and programs.

Minimum Qual Requirements

To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with
specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological,
environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a
responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the
appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with
specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological,
environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time
research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an
appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience
described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can
be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

NOTE:
Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period
of one year.

Preferred Skills
--Masters in Public Health/Public administration preferred but not required
--8-10 years experience leading or supporting collaborative prevention
projects aimed at improving the outcomes (health or other) of communities
of color
--Interest in carrying out racial and social justice activities via
neighborhood development
--Experience with general capacity building initiatives at the non-profit
and/or community level
--Knowledge of community and political organizing
--Strong organizational, project management, and leadership skills
--Ability to actively listen to and synthesize disparate viewpoints into a
shared vision
--Outstanding presentation, writing, and communications skills.

**LOAN FORGIVENESS

Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) to all qualifying public service
