*Department of Sociology, Texas A&M University, Two Positions*



The Department of Sociology at Texas A&M University invites applications
for 2 tenure track positions at the assistant or associate level with the
starting date of August 2017. (Appointment at a higher rank is possible
depending on the qualifications of the candidate and budgetary
constraints.) We seek candidates whose scholarly expertise is in at least
one of the following areas: Latina and Latino Sociology, Immigration,
Migration, and Demography. All methodologies and theoretical perspectives
are welcome. Candidates should have a PhD in Sociology or closely related
fields by the time of appointment and a record of scholarly publications
and successful teaching. In addition, we welcome candidates who will
contribute to or complement existing department strengths and have a record
of (or potential for) success in externally funded research.

Texas A&M University offers a wide range of research opportunities
including the Texas Federal Statistical Research Data Center (TXRDC), the
Race and Ethnic Studies Institute (RESI), and the Glasscock Center for
Humanities Research. The Sociology Department is large, collegial, and
intellectually and demographically diverse with 35 faculty members. The
department’s undergraduate program has about 600 majors and the doctoral
program has about 90 students. The successful candidates will address two
department needs: at least one candidate will contribute to the Latino/a
and Mexican-American Studies (or LMAS) minor and graduate certificate at
Texas A&M University and at least one candidate will cover graduate
seminars in migration supporting the graduate major in demography.



Texas A&M University is a large research university in Bryan/College
Station, a growing metropolitan community with a clean environment,
attractive amenities, and a low cost of living. It has close proximity to
the large metropolitan areas of Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
The University is a land, sea, and space grant university.

Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2016 and will continue
until the positions are filled. Once hired, the faculty member will be
expected to publish in leading scholarly outlets, seek grant opportunities,
teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and engage in service activities.
