Sampling Statistician Positions



Westat is seeking survey sampling statisticians, one at a senior level and
one at a new masters level. Responsibilities include: developing sample
designs (determining stratification and allocation to strata, determining
sample size based on differences and power, determining optimal clustering,
and selecting samples); selecting and/or constructing an appropriate sample
frame; developing and documenting a weighting plan that includes
nonresponse adjustment and benchmarking; developing and conducting
imputation for item nonresponse and estimating sampling errors using
appropriate software; writing specifications for programmers; and preparing
reports on sample design, weighting procedures, and other methodological
issues. Although not required to do programming, candidates would benefit
from knowing SAS and other statistical software packages. Qualified
candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills,
strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks
simultaneously.



Senior Survey Statistician

A Master’s or PhD degree in statistics with coursework in survey sampling,
or a master’s or PhD in survey sampling. Candidates with a master’s must
have at least 8 years of experience in sample survey design, selection, or
weighting. Candidates with a PhD must have at least 6 years of experience
in sample survey design, selection, or weighting.

Survey Statistician – New Masters

A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative technical field of study is required
for consideration. By the time of employment, candidate must possess a
Master’s degree in Statistics with course work in survey sampling or
possess a Master’s degree from a Survey Sampling program.
