The Department of Ethnic Studies at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit,
Catholic university, invites applications for a two-year Inclusive
Excellence Post-Doctoral Fellowship beginning Fall 2017. The goal of the
inclusive excellence post-doctoral fellowship program at Santa Clara
University is to support the early development of teaching scholars who are
from historically underrepresented groups. We seek applicants with
expertise in Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies with an emphasis on
interdisciplinary social scientific research to support the newly-created
undergraduate Ethnic Studies major and contribute to the department
scholarship in critical race and ethnic studies.

We welcome applicants from any of the social sciences, but we are
especially interested in scholars with a record of training and research
centered on Latinas/os in the U.S. and intersecting with Chicana/o and
Latina/o Studies. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a social science
discipline, or a related field, a strong scholarly trajectory, and
experience teaching on topics of race, ethnicity to a diverse population of
undergraduates. Candidates should also have a program of research that has
the potential to incorporate undergraduates as research assistants, and
leads to peer-reviewed publications. We seek balance between teaching and
scholarship and are interested in candidates with a passion for both.

The IE postdoctoral fellow will teach three courses the first year and four
classes the second year including a mix of lower division courses such as
Ethnic Studies 5: Introduction to Study of Race and Ethnicity in the U.S.,
and Ethnic Studies 20: Introduction to Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies; as
well as upper division courses such as Ethnic Studies 122: Chicana/o
Communities, as well as additional courses in her/his area of expertise.
The IE fellow will also provide support to the department’s new major in
Ethnic Studies by teaching a new upper division theory and methods
requirement and guiding student’s conducting independent research in
fulfillment of the Ethnic Studies capstone. For this reason, the ideal
candidate will have both a record of strong teaching as well as training
and expertise in interdisciplinary research methods and being able to
convey those effectively to undergraduate students while supporting
collaborative research.

Santa Clara is a private, Jesuit, Catholic university located in the heart
of California’s Silicon Valley. Faculty are teaching scholars who balance a
commitment to quality teaching with active programs of research and
creative scholarship. Ideal candidates should therefore demonstrate not
only potential for excellent undergraduate teaching, but also promise in
sustained research and scholarly publication, as well as an understanding
and support of the University’s mission and goals.

Santa Clara University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer,
committed to excellence through diversity and inclusion, and, in this
spirit, specifically invites applications from women, persons of color, and
members of historically underrepresented groups. The University will
provide reasonable accommodations to individuals with a disability.
