Brown University: DOF: Population Studies & Training Center

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Location: Providence, RI
------------------------------

The Population Studies and Training Center (PSTC) at Brown University is
currently recruiting a two-year Postdoctoral Research Associate to start on
or around July 1, 2017.

Research at the PSTC is innovative and interdisciplinary. It is
distinguished by its commitment for collaboration across disciplinary and
institutional boundaries as well as its strong portfolio of global
research. The scope of PSTC research encompasses traditional topics of
interest to demographers, such as migration and family processes, as well
as a much broader range of issues, including environmental change, social
inequalities and health, gender, family structure, residential segregation,
and HIV/AIDS epidemic. Opportunities also exist to build upon connections
the PSTC has with other interdisciplinary units at Brown, such as the
Watson Institute for International and Policy Affairs, Institute at Brown
for Environment and Society, Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences, the
School of Public Health, the Data Sciences Initiative, and more. Potential
applicants are encouraged to consult the PSTC website
<http://www.pstc.brown.edu/> to learn of research activities,
intra-institutional links, and faculty affiliate interests.

As part of a research unit with a strong culture of
collaboration, postdoctoral fellows are expected to spend part of their
time working independently and part of their time working collaboratively
with one or more mentors from among our faculty affiliates. In addition,
postdoctoral associates are expected to coordinate or participate in
relevant working groups, regularly attend the weekly PSTC Colloquia and
other PSTC workshops and mentoring activities, present their work to the
PSTC community, present research at the Population Association of America
(PAA) annual meetings, and submit one or more articles for publication.
They are also encouraged to prepare grant applications. We request that
applicants visit our PSTC faculty page
<https://www.brown.edu/academics/population-studies/about-us/people/faculty>
and identify one or two potential faculty mentors; however, applicants do
not need to contact potential mentors prior to submitting an application.

Qualifications

Postdoctoral Research Associates must have a Ph.D. in anthropology,
economics, sociology, demography, or a related social science discipline.

Application Instructions

Applicants should provide an up-to-date CV, 2 example(s) of written work,
and a cover letter with the following information: research interests and
plans, 1 or 2 anticipated PSTC faculty mentor(s), and future employment
goals. Please have three letters of recommendation submitted online through
interfolio. A review of applications will begin by January 31, 2017 and
will continue until the position is filled or the search is closed.
