The Infant Development and the Environment Study (TIDES) is seeking
volunteer interns.  The study examines the effects of phthalates, a group
of chemicals used to soften plastics, in relation to behavioral outcomes
and growth in young children.   Our lab is a multisite study, with research
currently being conducted in Seattle, WA; Rochester, NY; and Minneapolis,
MN.  Our San Francisco team is run by Dr. Nicole Bush and is supported by
NIH R01 funding (http://psych.ucsf.edu/faculty.aspx?id=6920).

Applicants for the intern position must possess a bachelor’s degree or
higher and have prior experience working in clinical or research settings
with human subjects.  Applicants must also be accustomed to working with
children between the ages of 4 and 6 years old.  Interns will gain
substantive experience conducting study assessments with young children,
along with training on anthropometric measurements and interviews with
participants.  In addition, interns will also gain exposure to laboratory
meetings, participate in protocol development, and provide support for
management of data.  This position provides substantial experience in the
areas of medicine, psychology, public health, and environmental health.

The position requires a *minimum commitment of 10 hours per week* for 1
year.

Although this is a volunteer position, volunteers are able to receive
practicum credit and/or clinical licensure hours from this experience.  Dr.
Bush is a licensed clinical psychologist and can provide supervision hours.

*Job description*

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Institute for Health &
Aging is recruiting a motivated and talented full-time postdoctoral fellow
to join an interdisciplinary team to analyze large data sets from lifestyle
intervention studies and National Databases (i.e. National Health and
Nutrition Examination Survey) and develop behavioral algorithms to design
personalized lifestyle interventions to prevent cardiovascular disease and
type-2 diabetes.

The types of information to be analyzed include time series data from
wearable sensors (i.e. accelerometer), physical activity and weight loss
mobile apps, questionnaires, laboratory and physical exam data, process
evaluation and interview data. As part of an interdisciplinary team, this
postdoctoral fellow will closely work with the PI (Dr.Yoshimi Fukuoka),
statisticians, co-investigators at UC Berkeley and Stanford University,
research staff, and graduate students. The candidate is expected to attend
weekly team meetings and disseminate findings through oral presentations
and written original manuscripts from project data.  In addition,
opportunities to develop research proposals under direct mentorship from
Dr. Fukuoka may be provided. This fulltime position is for one year, but
can be renewed for one additional year.
