RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION AT PUBLIC AGENDA <http://WWW.PUBLICAGENDA.ORG>
– Three days/week, with possibility to move into full-time position

Public Agenda is a nonprofit organization that helps diverse leaders and
citizens navigate divisive, complex issues. Through nonpartisan research
and engagement, it provides people with the insights and support they need
to arrive at workable solutions on critical issues, regardless of their
differences.

Public Agenda’s research department conducts quantitative and qualitative
public and stakeholder opinion studies on a wide range of policy issues,
especially on K-12 and higher education reform, health care, local
government and civic engagement, etc. The research department also conducts
evaluation studies. We employ a wide range of methodologies including
large-scale opinion surveys, various types of focus group methods and
in-depth one-on-one interviews. The research department frequently
collaborates with Public Agenda’s other departments (e.g., public
engagement, higher education, and communications) on joint projects.

We seek a highly motivated, collaborative researcher with significant
experience who is interested in joining our team in New York City.

*Key Responsibilities*

As part of a collaborative research team, the research associate will be
involved in all phases of our research and evaluation projects. His/her
primary responsibilities will be to significantly contribute to background
research and policy reviews, the development of research instruments
(including development of survey questions), quantitative and qualitative
data analysis, and drafting of reports and briefs for varied audiences.

This position reports to the director of research.

*Required Skills and Abilities: *

· Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience
conducting applied social science research, including both quantitative and
qualitative methods.

OR: Advanced degree in a social science or related discipline (public
policy, political science, anthropology, sociology, research methods, etc.)
with a minimum of 2 years of experience conducting applied social science
research, including both quantitative and qualitative methods.

· Comfort with a wide range of descriptive and some advanced
statistical analyses and the use of SPSS.

· Experience developing survey questions, ideally for public opinion
or policy-relevant research.

· A strong interest in and experience working on public policy
issues, ideally including significant experience in the areas of K-12,
postsecondary education, or health care.

· Ability to effectively engage individuals of diverse backgrounds
in interviews and focus group discussions.

· Experience conducting qualitative data analysis, especially as
collected through focus groups and interviews.

report writing and presentation skills.

· Intellectual curiosity, a sense of humor and ability to work with
a diverse team on diverse projects.

· Highly organized, able to coordinate multiple schedules and
project logistics on an ongoing basis.

· A strong interest in Public Agenda’s mission and a comfort level
working in a nonpartisan (as opposed to an advocacy) organization.
