* Research Positions*

*Environmental Health Research / Science and Society Studies*

Silent Spring Institute is hiring at* all levels – including experienced
PhD, postdoctoral fellow, masters level, or research assistant*—for
projects that involve* environmental health and community-engaged research*.
*Researchers will work in teams that integrate social science and
communications with environmental science and health research.*

These positions will play a major role in our ongoing social science
research, and the researchers will have the opportunity to develop new
projects. We have several active grants that are developing and evaluating
methods for reporting personal chemical exposures to participants in
biomonitoring and environmental exposure studies. We are interviewing study
participants and researchers to learn about their experiences. In addition,
we are studying methods for online data sharing that consider privacy and
informed consent.

*Silent Spring Institute* is a non-profit research organization dedicated
to identifying—and changing—the links between environment and health. We
are a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in epidemiology, toxicology,
chemistry, software development, data visualization, and community-based
research. Our annual budget of approximately $2 million supports a staff of
17, working with collaborating investigators at diverse institutions
including Harvard, UC Berkeley, US EPA, US CDC, and Northeastern
University, as well as with activists in environmental and health advocacy
groups.

Our research focuses on breast cancer and environmental pollutants,
especially hormone disruptors and animal mammary gland carcinogens. We
develop and apply new technologies to identify safer chemicals and measure
exposures. The ‘art’ of science is answering meaningful questions, and we
are artists! This is an opportunity to be part of a nationally recognized,
innovative, mission-driven team.

*Apply if *you are a creative, curious, critical thinker committed to
careful and impartial research in the context of partnership between
scientists and the public. Applicants with excellent backgrounds in
research and those with a scholarly bent who have excelled in other fields,
such as journalism or community organizing, are welcomed.
