NICHD Population Dynamics Branch (PDB) plans to hire an economist or demographer
· The position is for a Program Official to run extramural programs in population economics
and/or related areas. It is open to experienced Ph.D.-level economists and demographers.

WHAT IS AN NIH PROGRAM OFFICIAL/PROGRAM OFFICER (PO)?
· A Program Official (or Officer) is the NIH official responsible for the programmatic,
scientific, and/or technical aspects of a grant.
· Responsibilities of the Program Official
o Manages scientific research portfolio of grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements
o Identifies opportunities and needs of science specific to an Institute’s mission
o Stimulates interest in scientific areas of emphasis for each Institute
o Communicates program priorities through Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) such as
Program Announcements (PAs) and Requests for Applications (RFAs)
