Job Summary: Research Area Specialist Sr



The Center for Political Studies (CPS) at the University of Michigan's
Institute for Social Research (ISR) seeks to hire a Research Area
Specialist Senior in a non-tenure track research staff position in support
of its interdisciplinary faculty and research projects both domestically
and internationally. CPS is home to 50 world-class faculty and associated
with dozens of research projects, including the iconic American National
Election Studies, Comparative Study of Electoral Systems, Longitudinal
Study of American Youth and World Values Survey, among others. The posted
position offers challenging work and opportunities for professional and
personal growth.



Responsibilities



Responsibilities: Ensure the success of assigned research projects and
personnel. Assist in developing, implementing, and managing projects,
infrastructure, technology, conferences, data collections, and proposals in
support of the research interests of the faculty. Develop and maintain
partnerships and regular communication with collaborators from outside of
the Center and University, including internationally. Participate in
developing local research capacity in our partners and consulting on
operations, design, methods, substantive content, and analysis. Prepare and
maintain project management tools. Monitor budgets and resource allocation.
Clean, document, manage, analyze, disseminate and interpret data. Perform
quality control. Provide user support. Participate in the preparation,
authoring and delivery of reports, presentations and publications. Assist
in the communications strategy of the Center. Assist faculty members with
IRB applications. Oversee and conduct literature reviews. Maintain and
update bibliographies of scholarly output. Identify potential problems,
research and recommend approaches, and implement solutions. Conduct other
tasks as assigned.



 This position requires onsite presence during the normal business week.
Occasional domestic and international travel (no more than a few trips
annually) to project sites, project-related meetings, professional
conferences, and work-related training is required.



Required Qualifications



Required: Master's degree in survey methodology, political science, or
another social science, and 5-6 years of related experience. Interest in
political science. Excellent knowledge of, and applied experience with,
quantitative research methods and survey methodology. Strong experience
with a statistical package such as STATA, SPSS, R, or SAS. Experience
processing, documenting, analyzing and disseminating data. A history of
being organized, resourceful, and attentive to detail. Supervisory and
financial management experience. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple
projects at once, take initiative, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
Superior written and oral communication skills in English. Excellent
interpersonal skills. Comfortable working both individually and as part of
a team.



Desired Qualifications



Preferred: Doctorate degree. Prior experience with comparative research or
international collaborations. Expertise in one or more of the following
areas or similar: big data, geographic information systems, experiments,
text analysis, network analysis, qualitative methods, or social media
analysis. Able to communicate effectively in one or more languages other
than English.
