Mid-City Community Advocacy Network (Mid-City CAN),  fiscally sponsored  by
Mission Edge San Diego, is a community collaborative comprised of hundreds
of partners including residents of City Heights, businesses, schools, faith
and cultural organizations, and public and private agencies.  Mid-City
CAN’s mission is to create a safe, productive, and healthy community
through collaboration, advocacy, and organizing. In its 25th year, Mid-City
CAN plays an essential role in the community of City Heights community by
facilitating dialogue, identifying common issues, spearheading advocacy
efforts, and training residents to take leadership roles in affecting
change.



Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the Evaluation and Learning
Analyst will utilize research to develop and implement an annual evaluation
plan to measure changes resulting from Mid-City CAN’s work in the
community, including organizing community residents, coordinating
leadership development activities, facilitating workshops, community
planning, and advocacy campaigns for institutional and social change.



*Key Duties and Responsibilities*



*Research*

   - Conduct information and data retrieval searches using electronic
   databases to describe the distribution of social, economic, and
   environmental conditions at local, state, and national levels
   - Cleaning and analyzing data using Excel to predict how changes in
   social, economic, and environmental conditions may impact specific health
   outcomes
   - Use a variety of computer programs and applications to collect,
   analyze, and organize information and data
   - Identify and read academic journal articles on health topics to
   develop comprehensive literature reviews
   - Analyze, research, and interpret data, ensuring that key findings are
   identified and shared
   - Design research models using Health Impact Assessment pathways, logic
   models, quasi-experimental design, and participatory action research methods
   - Support the planning, design, and management of research and evaluation
   - Use a variety of methods, such as interviews, questionnaires, and
   focus groups, to investigate the views of population samples on evaluation
   topics and to collect information
   - Design questionnaires, methods, and surveys for data collection
   - Apply a variety of research techniques to gather relevant information,
   including document analysis, surveys, case studies, participatory
   reflection, and interviews (face-to-face, telephone and online)
   - Coordination external analysis and reports as needed
   - Design and implement annual evaluation plan
   - Participate in reflection and evaluation of campaign activities

 *Communication*

   - Clearly articulate the efforts of the Mid-City CAN, its community
   development strategy, and evaluation goals and outcomes
   - Communicating to stakeholders and decision-makers about the importance
   of considering health in policy-making
   - Provide or arrange interpretation as needed
   - Blend quantitative data findings with qualitative data to produce
   mixed-method reports and presentations
   - Offer training and technical assistance to community groups, public
   health agencies, and other stakeholders
