*Seeking a Supervisory Health Scientist Administrator with Expertise in
Statistical Analysis in Biomedical Research to Join the NIH Office of
Extramural Research *
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Division of Statistical Analysis
and Reporting (DSAR), located in the Immediate Office of the Director,
Office of Extramural Research (OER), will be recruiting* a director (GS-15)
with expertise in conducting data analysis on organization-wide research
programs, policies, and the biomedical workforce to support NIH leadership
decision-making and policy development. Located within the Office of the
Director at NIH, OER’s mission is to provide the corporate framework for
NIH research administration, ensuring scientific integrity, public
accountability, and effective stewardship of the NIH extramural research
portfolio.
The incumbent will use his/her research expertise to lead staff responsible
for analyzing quantitative and qualitative data on NIH’s entire portfolio
of research investments to produce data-based reports. These include
mandatory and statutorily-required reports, analyses to support NIH policy
initiatives and management decisions, and responses to NIH internal and
external stakeholder requests. The ideal candidate would have expertise in:
epidemiology, demography, and/or any field of biomedical and behavioral
research emphasizing statistical analyses; working with and extracting data
from administrative databases; and managing and overseeing teams
responsible for the preparation of recurring and ad hoc datasets and
analytical reports relevant to an organization’s programs and policies.
An individual with the expertise described above would enjoy a
scientifically stimulating and collegial environment and have ample
opportunities to:
- Lead, direct and manage a team of information analysts to meet data
analysis and reporting needs of NIH
- ·Design and direct special studies, experiments, and simulations
designed to support planning and evaluation of NIH grant programs,
policies, and procedures, and provide new information and alternative
solutions to complex problems
- Develop innovative approaches and tools to enhance analysis and
visualization of policy-relevant topics and findings
- Develop policies, guidelines and standards for the use of extramural
data and advise the Institutes and Centers and outside personnel on
obtaining and analyzing data
- Respond to requests from NIH leadership, Congress, other federal
agencies, and the general public for information and guidance regarding
scientific and biomedical data related to NIH extramural programs
The work site location is the Washington, D.C. suburb of Bethesda,
Maryland. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and
