Must possess excellent time management skills; interpersonal skills,
including working with colleagues and managing positive client
relationships; strong written and oral communication skills; and able
ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize,
meet deadlines, work within a fast-paced environment, and work with a high
degree of accuracy.  A strong knowledge of theory and practice of teaching
and learning, particularly in informal environments, including program
and/or exhibit development is necessary.  Demonstrated competencies in
research and evaluation, including study design, qualitative and
quantitative methods, analyses, and reporting study findings (this includes
expertise with using research and analysis software, such as SPSS) is
essential.  A minimum of a Master’s degree in the social sciences,
education, psychology or a related field; previous experience supervising
and mentoring others, particularly those in researcher or evaluator roles;
a minimum of 3 years of work experience in the area of evaluation and/or
research in informal education or social sciences; and 2 years of
experience independently leading evaluation or research projects are
required.  Experience in a consulting firm and in grant or proposal
development is preferred.



*OBJECTIVE:*  Contribute to the work of the Lifelong Learning Group (LLG),
part of the Center for Research & Evaluation, by directing and supporting
the delivery of high-quality research, evaluation, and consulting projects
with external clients in the informal learning field.  Contribute to
development and dissemination of field-wide insights into informal learning
and the value of visitor studies across the informal learning field.



*ABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:*

   1. Implement research and evaluation projects teams for external
   clients, including all tasks from study design, implementation, analysis,
   and reporting, as well as project and budget management, client
   communication, and supervision of project teams.  This includes
   responsibilities to:
      1. Independently direct and manage evaluation and research projects.
      2. Participate as a supporting member of a project team.
   2. Supervise and mentor the work and performance of LLG Research
   Associates team, providing oversight, support, and guidance in:
      1. Consulting work and client management competencies.
      2. Research and evaluation competencies.
   3. Develop new clients and projects for LLG, including:
      1. Lead or contribute to the development, writing, and budgeting of
      proposals.
      2. Build and strengthen client relationships that result in new
      projects.
   4. Contribute to the professional development and learning within
   internal teams and the field at large (such as publishing, presenting,
   leading workshops, etc.).
   5. Oversee the hiring, training, performance evaluation, and
   professional development of the LLG Research Associates.  As part of the
   supervisor responsibility of this job, conduct performance evaluations in
   accordance with COSI procedures.
   6. Support general COSI operations through participation in meetings as
   appropriate.
   7. Serve as an example to other COSI Team Members and Volunteers in
   matters of appearance, attitude, and performance in a manner best serving
   COSI paid and Volunteer Team Members and Guests.
   8. In accordance with COSI's Guest Services Strategy, and as
   opportunities present themselves, provide excellence in Guest Services by
   assuring Guest safety, using courtesy to drive each Guest interaction, by
   delivering the COSI show, and by keeping operations efficient.
   9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director, LLG.
