Post Doctoral Fellowship opportunity -

The New School for Social Research invites applications for an
interdisciplinary one-year Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship to begin July 1,
2014. The New School for Social Research is dedicated to progressive
scholarship grounded in history and informed by a rich legacy of critical
thought and civic engagement. The Mellon Fellow will be appointed in the
Sociology department of NSSR, and will be expected to offer an undergraduate
and a graduate course (one each semester), preferably with interdisciplinary
reach, on a topic related to their own scholarship. In addition to teaching,
the Fellow will be expected to conduct research on a proposed topic with the
mentorship and (where possible) collaboration of at least one member of the
NSSR faculty, and to become actively engaged in the intellectual life of the
NSSR during the period of their fellowship.

We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to studying significant
issues in the topic areas and methods that are represented in the Sociology
Department at the New School for Social Research, with the rigor and spirit
that characterize the school. These areas and issues include: social
inequalities; culture and politics; law, rights, and citizenship; historical
and comparative sociology; and cities and publics. The Mellon Fellow will
have completed their PhD within the five years preceding July 1, 2014.
Individuals from groups historically under-represented in higher education,
and international candidates, are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must apply using the New School's on-line application system at:
https://careers.newschool.edu <https://careers.newschool.edu/> . Please
include a cover letter and cv, and the following should be posted in the
"other document" section: 1) brief descriptions of proposed undergraduate
and graduate courses, 2) a concise [2-3 pages] proposal for a research
project to be undertaken during the term of the Fellowship 3) indication of
at least one but no more than three potential faculty collaborators who have
expertise relevant to your proposed research project, 4) a graduate school
transcript, 5) a writing sample, and 6) the names of three references.

The deadline for applications is November 18th, 2013.

The New School is committed to maintaining a diverse educational and
creative community, a policy of equal opportunity in all its activities and
programs, including employment. The University is engaged in a diversity
initiative and we encourage individuals from groups underrepresented in U.S.
higher education to apply. We do not discriminate on the basis of race,
