*1.*   *Research Scientist/Research Associate at The Population Research
Institute, Penn State*



The Population Research Institute (PRI) and the Social Science Research
Institute (SSRI) at the Pennsylvania State University are seeking to hire a
Research Scientist/Research Associate with expertise in the areas of GIS
and spatial analysis. The person who holds this position is expected to
help build the intellectual capacity in GIS and spatial methods in the
social sciences at Penn State. This will include, but not be limited to,
leading and contributing to the development of proposals that incorporate
geospatial data and spatial methods in addressing complex social problems;
leading and contributing to research papers and publications; and
developing new methods and/or instructional resources for advanced spatial
analysis. The individual will have opportunities to work on their own
research as well as partner with existing research teams at Penn State.  As
the research scientist will meet with faculty in many disciplines and
encounter diverse types of data and methods, the applicant should have a
PhD in a relevant field (sociology, geography, economics, etc.), and
possess a broad array of skills in research methods with an emphasis on
spatial statistics and GIS applications in the health and social sciences;
experience in the area of network data and analysis would also be a plus.
Interaction with faculty will also require excellent management,
organizational, and oral & written communication skills. Experience and
high levels of familiarity with a diverse set of health and social science
data sets is preferred. This is a fixed-term renewable appointment based at
the University Park campus. Full Penn State benefits are included.

School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, NYU Global Institute
of Public Health*



NYU Steinhardt’s Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health
is seeking applications for a *joint* hire with the NYU Global Institute of
Public Health (GIPH) at the rank of tenured Associate/Full Professor in
Public Health.  The preferred start date for the appointment is September
1, 2014. Public Health faculty in the Department focus on social and
behavioral determinants of population health over the life course with an
emphasis on vulnerable populations and disparities at the local, national,
and global levels.  Current faculty are expert in a variety of fields
including infectious and chronic disease epidemiology, health policy,
medicine, health services research, sociology, nutrition, and international
health. The NYU Global Institute of Public Health (GIPH) draws from
resources across NYU’s schools to deliver truly interdisciplinary public
health education at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels.  The
Institute also supports cutting-edge and collaborative public health
research around the world.  The GIPH builds on the global reach of NYU’s
unique Global Network University; draws strength from the entrepreneurial
spirit of NYU’s many talented faculty and students; and serves as a conduit
for groundbreaking research and education.

*Responsibilities:  *The successful candidate will be expected to take a
leadership role in NYU’s expanding public health enterprise, serve as a
focal point between Steinhardt and the GIPH; teach courses and advise
students in NYU’s BS/BA, MPH, and doctoral public health programs; and
collaborate with other NYU researchers to establish independent,
externally-funded research.  Teaching and administrative responsibilities
will be divided between Steinhardt and the GIPH.  The successful candidate
will receive an academic year base salary and will have the option of
course buyouts and/or supplementing summer salary with external funds.

*Qualifications*:  Candidates should have a strong record of scholarly
achievement, peer-reviewed publications, extramural funding, and teaching
experience.  A doctoral degree in public health or other relevant social
science or policy-related discipline is required.  Individuals with
expertise in chronic disease epidemiology and/or public health nutrition
are of particular interest, but other areas of focus will be considered.
Though not required, special emphasis will also be placed on work with a
global focus, including research on immigration and health and work with a
policy focus.

*3.*   *CENTER FOR RESEARCH ON RACE AND ETHNICITY IN SOCIETY (CRRES)
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP RSP*



Indiana University, Bloomington is pleased to accept applications for two
Postdoctoral Fellowships for scholars in a broad range of fields, including
African American and African Diaspora Studies, American Studies (includes
Native American Studies), Anthropology, History, Political Science,
Psychology, and Sociology. Postdoctoral fellows are an important component
of the intellectual life of CRRES. The CRRES fellowship program aims to
create a legacy of qualified scholars who will be positioned to address the
broad issue of race and ethnicity in the United States using a
multidisciplinary lens. These fellowships are designed to nurture the
academic careers of scholars by allowing them the opportunity to pursue
their research while gaining mentored experience as teachers, CRRES
fellows, and members of the faculty in host departments. We are looking for
self-motivated and highly-organized individuals who can work independently
and as members of a team. Appropriate areas of specialization include U.S.
coverage of: (1) immigration, immigrant politics, and/or immigrant
experiences; (2) race, ethnicity, and religion; (3) health disparities,
health policy, and health economics; (4) racial attitudes; (5) minorities
and social movements; and (6) social inequality. We welcome cross-national
research as long as there is a comparison with U.S. groups, with a
substantial focus on the American experience. *Terms of Agreement *Fellows
are expected to pursue research activities associated with their primary
area(s) of work, as demonstrated by conference presentations (including
CRRES) and published works. Fellows will also teach two courses in their
home departments in each year of their residency; are expected to
participate in CRRES activities; and take part in their home departments’
colloquia and/or seminars. The positions are available for two years
beginning August 1, 2014 through May 31, 2016, at a 10-month starting
salary of $51,500. Each postdoctoral fellow will also receive $3,000/yr. in
research support and Indiana University health benefits. Fellows are
allocated office space (with basic office supplies), a computer, and
printer. *Application Process *We invite applications from qualified
candidates who are at the beginning of their academic careers, having
received the Ph.D. in 2012 or 2013 but who do not hold tenure-track
academic positions. Candidates who do not hold a Ph.D. but expect to
by June 30, 2014 must supply a letter from the chair of their dissertation
committee, confirming the proposed timeline for completion. Interested
