Post-doctoral Fellowship in Food Insecurity Policy

POLICY INTERVENTIONS TO REDUCE HOUSEHOLD FOOD INSECURITY IN CANADA

Eyes High is the University of Calgary's new strategic direction, a bold
and ambitious vision to become one of Canada's top five research
universities by 2016. To this end, 60 researchers on campus have been
invited to nominate a new scholar from outside the University of Calgary
who will contribute to increase the University's research capacity.
These candidates are to be of the highest calibre with a track record
that would be competitive for national and international fellowships.
They should be prepared to relocate to Calgary before the end of 2013.
In addition to working with their supervisor, they will participate in
an enhanced professional development program aimed at ensuring long-term
career success. The $50,000 annual salary is competitive and is
augmented by additional benefits and research supports. Nominations for
the two year fellowship must be finalized by April 30, 2013 so
applications will be considered immediately until the position is filled.

The will join an
international team examining policy interventions to reduce food
insecurity <http://nutritionalsciences.lamp.utoronto.ca/>
http://nutritionalsciences.lamp.utoronto.ca/. The Fellow's
research will specifically contribute to an interpretive policy analysis
that addresses the question, "How is household food insecurity defined
and socially constructed as a policy problem in Canada?" Understanding
how food insecurity is framed as a policy issue is critical to
understanding why existing responses to this problem (e.g., food banks,
children's feeding programs) have taken the forms they have and how
other sorts of policy interventions to address food insecurity could be
taken up. The ideal candidate will be within three years of doctoral
completion, have an excellent publication track record, a background in
public policy (broadly defined), and possess a critical perspective on
household food insecurity.

Supervision will be by Lynn McIntyre MD, MHSc, FRCPC who is currently
the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) Chair in Gender and
Health in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University
of Calgary. Dr. McIntyre has an excellent track record of PDF
supervision and mentorship and works with an impressive
multi-disciplinary research team. For more information on Dr McIntyre,
