The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), part of the Centers for

serve in the Division of Health and Nutrition Examination Survey’s Office
of the Director. The Division is responsible for the National Health and

obtain extensive data based on direct physical measures and laboratory
tests from a nationally representative sample.

*Why join?*

adolescents are critical in the development of Federal nutrition
recommendations, dietary guidance and policy.

population subgroups, so the government moved to fortify cereal and enrich
grain products with iron in the 1970’s and folate in the 1990’s.

· NHANES is used to produce estimates on the prevalence of HPV
infection in the U.S. and recently showed a 56% decline in HPV infection
among adolescent girls after routine HPV vaccine recommendations were made.
