Job Description:
ICF International has an opening for a Health Geographic Analyst working primarily
with the MEASURE Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) and MEASURE Evaluation
programs. MEASURE DHS is a US Agency for International Development (USAID) funded
project that supports the collection of demographic and health data through
nationally representative population and facility-based surveys.  MEASURE
Evaluation, also a USAID funded project, works with national governments to improve
monitoring and evaluation of health activities within the country through capacity
building and research.

The Health Geographic Analyst will primarily focus on use of geographic data with
the demographic and health data collected under various types of DHS surveys. Tasks
will include data validation, developing and implementing research plans, writing
manuscripts for publication, and collaborating with different groups to define the
research agenda. The Health Geographic Analyst would also be involved in other
projects at ICF with a need for GIS including assisting in data collection plans,
validating geographic data in surveys, and making maps for publication.  The Health
Geographic Analyst will report directly to the GIS Coordinator, and will be
responsible for managing specific projects.  Some travel domestically or
internationally is possible but would likely be less than 10% of the time. The
full-time position is based in Calverton, MD (in the Washington, DC metro area).
Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

§  Participate in data analysis and report writing
§  Provide GIS data management and validation support to projects
§  Contribute to the development and implementation of the geographic research agenda
§  Provide guidance to project staff on how to implement geographic tools in
analysis and project activities
§  Provide GIS related technical contribution to new proposal development
§  Travel domestically or internationally as necessary (< 10% of time)


Basic Qualifications:

§   PhD or Masters in public health, demography, geography, or related field
§  Three to five years of professional experience with the use of GIS in health
and/or population related research
§   Experience in managing and analyzing large data sets
§  Excellent writing skills
§  Demonstrated knowledge of GIS applications in health and population data research
§   Demonstrated knowledge of STATA, SPSS, SAS,  or R Statistics
§  Demonstrated knowledge of ArcGIS 10.x

Preferred Skills/Experience:

§  Experience working overseas in a developing-country setting
§  Experience working with country counterparts, host country institutions, and US
and other international donor agencies is highly desirable
§  French or Spanish foreign language skills are a plus

Professional Skills:

§  Ability to work independently and manage projects on a daily basis with minimal
supervision
§  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
§  Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
§  Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations and
developing country environments
§  Ability to work effectively with other project staff, USAID, other donors and
international organizations
§  Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel)
