Research and Policy Analyst

Position

The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) seeks a highly skilled and
motivated individual to join the organization as a research and policy
analyst. This full-time position reports to the Director of Nutrition Policy
and works closely with the President as well as staff working on the SNAP
(food stamp) and child nutrition programs. FRAC is noted for its reporting,
research and analysis of the extent of hunger in America, the reach of the
federal nutrition programs, and their impact on the health and well-being of
low-income families and individuals. This position has primary
responsibility for tracking and analyzing third-party data and data
collected by FRAC, compiling reports and disseminating information on
hunger, food insecurity, family economic security and the federal nutrition
programs.

Organizational Background

FRAC is the leading national organization working to improve public policy
to eradicate hunger and under-nutrition in the United States. FRAC engages
in advocacy, research, analysis, policy development, training, technical
assistance, and public education to improve public nutrition programs (e.g.,
SNAP/food stamps, school meals, summer and afterschool food, child care
food, WIC) and anti-poverty programs and broaden their reach. FRAC and its
partners work to alert the public and policymakers to the extent of hunger
and its impacts and to forge workable solutions at the national, state and

Responsibilities

The person filling this position is the primary resource to the organization
for data and research relating to hunger, food insecurity, family economic
security and utilization of the federal nutrition programs.

The position involves:

*	Identifying, collecting and analyzing data from national, state and
local public agency databases, other non-profit institutions and FRAC’s own
research;
*	Developing written analyses and graphic (including mapping)
presentations of findings;
*	Supporting program staff in analyzing pending legislative and policy
options;
*	Regularly following relevant research sources and producing
summaries and alerts about key new studies for periodic dissemination to
advocates and policymakers;
*	Communicating effectively to a variety of audiences, including
FRAC’s network of state and local advocates, the results of research, policy
and data analysis through policy briefs, publications, web postings and
other means;
*	Representing FRAC at conferences and meetings with outside
organizations.

Skills and Qualifications

*	Masters degree in a relevant area (such as public policy,
statistics, public health, economics, sociology) with 2 or more years of
related work experience;
*	Able to interpret complex data sets and present them in
understandable terms;
*	Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, strong writing skills, and the
ability to work on multiple tasks, often on a time-sensitive basis;
*	Extremely comfortable with computer software such as spreadsheets
and database programs, as well as advanced statistics and data analysis
software, such as STATA, SPSS and SAS; knowledge of mapping software, a
plus;
*	Familiarity with manipulating large data sets and proficient in
basic statistical analysis;
*	Able to work independently and interest in identifying new areas for
research and analysis;
*	Experience working in a team environment;
*	Experience in hunger and anti-poverty research, a plus;
*	Commitment to social justice work.
