About the Position
The Associate Director for Research will be responsible for guiding and
supervising research activities within our organization, including for
example, specific HIA scoping and assessment activities, providing strategic
research support to staff, and conducting empirical analysis as needed. The
Associate Director will employ best practice research methods and tools,
using a multi-method approach that integrates quantitative and qualitative
data collection and analysis.

Tasks include:
- Supervising and guiding research activities within HIAs;
- Designing innovative research techniques and methods to be used within
HIAs;
- Creating and using new quantitative tools and/or statistical methods for
predicting the health impacts of public policies, plans and projects;
- Supervising or conducting data analyses using STATA, SPSS or SAS;
- Publishing and disseminating findings including report and manuscript
preparation and presentation;
- Coordinating and leading components of national HIA trainings (e.g., 4-5
times p/yr); and
- Taking on leadership roles in HIAs and on organizational development
tasks.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a very rapidly growing field,
and will require a range of demonstrated skills and abilities, including:
- Conducting creative qualitative and quantitative research in public health
or social science arenas;
- Working with a range of stakeholders including community residents,
organizers and advocates, public health and other government agencies,
elected officials, academic researchers;
- Writing reports;
- Public speaking;
- Carrying out and coordinating projects with others.

Salary: negotiable, based on experience
Start date: negotiable; the position is full time, but may start on a
contract basis and then move to employment with benefits.

Qualifications
- Doctorate in public health, public policy, social science, or other
related area, or equivalent years of experience;
- At least 4 additional years of experience, with at least two being in a
supervisory/management position;
- Demonstrated experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis,
including in the use of statistical and graphics software (e.g., SPSS,
STATA, SAS);
- Strong project management and administration skills;
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- In addition to English language fluency, mastery of Spanish is highly
desirable.
