The Consumer Expenditure Survey program at the Bureau of Labor Statistics
has a research position open in the Research and Program Development Branch.
The Consumer Expenditure Survey program consists of two surveys, the
quarterly Interview Survey and the Diary Survey, which provide information
on the buying habits of America's consumers. The survey data are collected
for the Bureau of Labor Statistics by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Although the position has been posted as an Economist, the ideal candidate
will have experience or interest in survey methods research. A position

RESEARCH POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT


The job announcement number is DE-12-BLS-PL-111. The series and grade is
GS-0110-09/09. The posting closes on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provide research support for methodological and statistical studies aimed
at the measurement and reduction of survey errors from non-sampling sources,
and at the identification of factors leading to those errors.
* Analyze problems using existing or emerging methods, both quantitative and
qualitative. This will require familiarity with data collection
methodologies, survey error sources, and relevant scientific studies.
* Use SAS or other statistical programming language (such as R) to analyze
data from the CE survey, field tests, or other sources.
* Provide support as a team member for special projects, interacting with
other BLS and Census Bureau employees, and with outside organizations
working under contract to BLS.
