Assistant Specialist in Social Demography, Center on the Family, University
of Hawai`i at Manoa
Center on the Family of the CTAHR at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa is
seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Specialist in
Social Demography, which is expected to design and conduct integrated
research and outreach activities in areas relating to the well-being of
families in Hawaii and consistent with the mission of COF, provide
demographic perspective to Center projects involving social and public
policy issues, seek extramural funds, develop demography  focused social
indicators, teach one 3-credit course per year, and provide service to the
University and community, and perform other duties as required.
 Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a social science, public health,
or a related field with a specialization in demography. ABD candidates may
be considered, but all degree requirements must be completed at the time of
hire. Applicants must have (1) at least three years experience in an area
consistent with the Center’s mission at next lower rank or equivalent, (2)
expertise in population modeling and statistics, (3) evidence of a
programmatic research and/or outreach agenda, and (4) ability to conduct
effective presentations/ workshops; develop publications for academic and
community audiences; and collaborate effectively with persons from diverse
backgrounds.
Applications must include: 1) a letter of application describing the
applicant’s fit with this position; 2) curriculum vitae; 3) official
university transcripts; 4) samples of professional writing and scholarly
work; (5) the names, email addresses, postal addresses, and daytime phone
numbers for three professional references, and (6) arrange to have the
three letters of reference sent to the Search Committee Chair by the best
consideration date.
