The University at Albany, SUNY. The Department of Sociology at the
University at Albany invites applications for a tenure track position to
begin Fall 2011 (contingent on final budget approval), with competitive
salary. Candidates are sought in either of the following two areas: (1)
demography; rank open but with preference given to candidates at the
Associate or Full level and who have experience obtaining external funding.
Candidates in this area should contribute to the research agenda of the
Center for Social and Demographic Analysis (see its website:
http://www.albany.edu/csda/). (2) Our second priority is for a candidate at
the Assistant Professor level who conducts qualitative and/or ethnographic
research. The substantive area is open but we are especially interested in
someone who works in the area of culture, gender, or urban.
Candidates must demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and
exhibit a strong commitment to teaching and service. Candidates with PhDs
are preferred, but ABDs within one year of completion will be considered.
Degree(s) must be from a college or university accredited by the U.S.
Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting
organization. Applicants must address in their applications their ability
to work with and instruct a culturally diverse population. Applicants
should send a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and three letters of
reference; finalists will be asked to provide additional materials related
to research and teaching. Applications will be screened beginning October
1. The University at Albany is an EO/AA/IRCA/ADA employer. All materials
should be addressed to: Search Committee, Department of Sociology,
University at Albany, State University of New York, Albany, New York 12222.
