Project Director
NIH Grant: Work-related Travel: Effects on Health and Family
This federally funded research project is a multi-method study that includes
all household members over the age of 8 years old to improve our understanding
of the personal dynamics involved in holding a job that requires frequent
travel. We are seeking a Post-Doc or Research Associate to fulfill the
following responsibilities:
* Maintain and monitor data collection and data management procedures
* Plan and supervise the work of multiple graduate research assistants
* Recruit research participants and supervise participation process,
including payments to participants
* Contribute to research activities (analysis, submissions,
presentations, and manuscripts)
* Prepare brochures, newsletters, and reports for participants,
funding agency, and other stakeholders
* Liaise with research and program officers at Texas Tech University
and the National Institutes of Health
* Prepare annual budgets, financial and activity reports for funding
agency (NIH) as well as host institution (Tech)
The position starts September 1, 2009 (or before) and the grant will end on
August 30, 2011. The PI intends to write another grant and to work on
establishing a Center on Work and Family Life which would include possibilities
for continuing appointment and progressively more responsible positions.

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
The Department of Economics Business Program and Children's Studies Program and
Center invite applications for an interdisciplinary tenure track position at
the Assistant or Associate Professor rank beginning in September 2010. It is
expected that the candidate's teaching and research will focus on such
ground-breaking areas as children as markets in the public sectors of
education, health, and child welfare and in the private sectors of production,
marketing and consumption. It is hoped that the candidate's research can be
coordinated with a special mission of the Children's Studies Program and its
emphasis on the children of New York City and State.
It is the intention of the Department of Economics Business Program and that of
the Children's Studies Program to spearhead innovative interdisciplinary
research, utilizing the latest quantitative and qualitative research methods,
including cohort studies, for the analysis of children in the public and
private markets.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Doctorate or the equivalent degree in such relevant fields as economics,
business, demography, fiscal economics and the public sector, education, public
health and policy analysis, marketing to children, the ethics of marketing to
children. The degree does not have to be in business and may be in a related
field provided that the candidate's research and teaching interests have as
their focus the many facets of children in the political economy. Record of
teaching experience and scholarly innovation and productivity, the latter
evidenced by publications and funded grant applications. Also desirable are:
familiarity with policy and evaluation research in the child welfare sector;
the ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities of researchers,
practitioners, public policy makers and private sponsors; and management
ability, including experience in project development, fundraising and
budgeting. The selected candidate should be familiar with relevant major
ongoing c
hild research and methodologies in the social sciences.

3. Northwestern University - FACULTY POSITION IN POPULATION AND HEALTH
Tenure Track Faculty Position in Population and Health. Northwestern University
is seeking an experienced scholar in sociology, demography, population health,
social epidemiology, economics, or related fields, whose research program
includes a focus on biology or health. The scholar will join the
multidisciplinary faculty of Cells to Society (C2S): The Center on Social
Disparities and Health at the Institute for Policy Research. Applicants should
demonstrate outstanding records of scholarly publication, teaching, and
externally-funded research. The successful candidate will help to lead C2S in
its goal to become an NICHD-funded population research center.
This position can be solely or jointly appointed, involving the following
departments: Sociology, Statistics, or Economics in the Weinberg College of
Arts and Sciences; Human Development and Social Policy in the School of
Education and Social Policy; or Medical Social Sciences in the Feinberg School
of Medicine.
