GSRA Position in Environmental/Health/Applied Micro

Project Description:  Exposure to environmental emissions may be an important
determinant of mortality and other health outcomes, but it is difficult to obtain
causal estimates of these effects given the infeasibility of conducting randomized
experiments.  This project examines the relationship between emissions and health
outcomes using establishment-level data in the Longitudinal Business Database (LBD),
exploiting the record of establishment openings and closings to identify effects on
health outcomes and mortality.  The project has been approved by the Census Bureau
and is funded by the NIH.

Semesters Desired:  One or possibly two years, starting as soon as possible.

GSRA Position Description:  The GSRA will play a primary role in working with the
LBD and other large datasets used in the project. The GSRA must have experience with
STATA. Much of the work will be performed in the Berkeley Census Research Data
Center so it is important that the GSRA be on campus full-time.
