independent research organization with more than 75 years of leadership and
experience in data collection, program evaluation, data analysis, and
information dissemination, seeks a Co-Director for the General Social Survey
(GSS) one of the nation’s most important sources of data.  Since 1972, the
GSS has completed 31 in-person, cross-sectional surveys of the US adult
household population, interviewing a total of approximately 62,500
respondents.  By using a strict, full-probability sample design, rigorous
field efforts, and extensive quality control, the GSS produces a high-quality,
representative sample of US adults.<span></span></span></p>

providing an empirical longitudinal time series used to advance social-science
theory, the GSS is used in other fields of science, in education, and in
society in general. It was selected across all NSF science projects as one of
"60 discoveries or advances that NSF believes have led a large impact or
influence on every American’s life." The GSS is also used extensively used
by academics, government, not-for-profits, and the mass media.  It is the
second most cited data set (behind the US Census) in the peer-reviewed
sociological literature over the last 30 years.  The data are also used
extensively in education over 2,000 textbooks and teaching manuals utilize the
GSS and it is used by over 20,000 registered uses to the GSS Explorer Website
which disseminates the data. <span></span></span></p>
