<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt;text-align:center" align="center"><b><span style="font-size:14pt;color:black">Director for the Center for Elimination of
Border Health Disparities (C-BORD)</span></b><span style="color:black"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt"><span style="color:black">The
University of Arizona seeks to hire an accomplished scientist and leader in population-based
health research to direct a new Center for Border Health. The new center will
focus on the unique public health challenges, intervention opportunities, and
health outcomes in the US-Mexico border region. The center will serve as a
catalyst and hub for interdisciplinary and binational collaboration that
examines the impact of policy, environment, health care delivery, genetic
determinants, and other factors on health outcomes on both sides of the
US-Mexico border. A major focus of this center will be innovative,
evidence-based approaches to prevention and health care delivery in this
diverse and dynamic region.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt"><span style="color:black">The
center and its director will engage the University of Arizona’s large,
interdisciplinary community of investigators and clinicians in the five health
sciences colleges (College of Medicine – Tucson, College of Medicine – Phoenix,
College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and the Mel & Enid Zuckerman
College of Public Health), as well as faculty in the colleges of science,
social and behavioral sciences, agriculture and life sciences, and the BIO5
Institute. To facilitate its research, the center and its director will rely on
a network of partnerships and area sites of service and research, such as the
Dean Carter Binational Center for Environmental Health Sciences, the US-Mexico
Border Health Commission, Area Health Education Centers, and American Indian
nations in Southern Arizona and beyond.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt"><span style="color:black">The
Director will have the opportunity to build a program that puts Arizona at the
forefront of research, education, and clinical care that target health
disparities and other population- and region-specific challenges in the
prevention and control of infectious and chronic diseases. To accomplish this,
it is anticipated that the director will build interdisciplinary relationships
and collaborations with the newly established Center for Population Science and
Discovery and the Center for Applied Genetics and Genomics Medicine, as well as
long-recognized centers and programs such as the Center for Rural Health and
the Arizona Telemedicine Program.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt"><span style="color:black">For
the center’s inaugural Director, we seek an established scientist with a strong
record of extramural funding and research productivity in relevant areas of
investigation. We seek an individual who embraces a collaborative and inclusive
approach to research and education, with experience building successful,
multidisciplinary programs and community partnerships. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt"><span style="color:black">Reporting
directly to the Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, the Director will
have his/her academic appointment in one of the colleges of the Arizona Health
Sciences Center (colleges of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, or public health) and
will likely have other joint appointments that facilitate intra-university
engagement. S/he will be expected to play a regional leadership role,
interacting with other research, service, and clinical institutions across the
Southwest and Mexico to advance research in health disparities and health
barriers along the US-Mexico border, and to facilitate the discovery of focused
health solutions for the region, contributing as well to a broader base of
knowledge applicable to other binational, multinational, and migration-centered
settings.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12pt"><span style="color:black">Qualified
candidates must possess an advanced health professions degree (e.g., MD, PhD,
PharmD, DNP, etc.) and be eligible for a University of Arizona academic
appointment at the Associate Professor level or higher. Candidates should also
have demonstrated relevant experience in border/global health and/or ethnic
health disparities research and program management preferably in an academic
institution. </span></p>
