<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;background:none repeat scroll 0% 0% white"><span style="color:black">Under the supervision of
Dr. Fred Ssewamala (the PI), the Staff Associate will work as a member of a
research project team for two studies, Bridges to the Future study and the
Suubi-Adherence study, which are both a part of the International Center for Child
Health and Asset Development (ICHAD). The Bridges to the Future study</span><span style="color:rgb(34,34,34)"> is one of the first studies to evaluate the efficacy and
cost-effectiveness </span><span style="color:black">of an innovative
family-based economic empowerment intervention for AIDS-orphaned children
in Uganda. The Suubi-Adherence study </span><span style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">examines
the impact and cost associated with an innovative economic empowerment
intervention for the treatment of HIV-infected adolescents in Uganda. Both
studies have an HIV intervention focus.</span><span style="font-size:9.5pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:rgb(34,34,34)"> </span><span style="color:black">The
Staff Associate’s primary responsibilities include assistance with the
development of study protocols, working with the PI to train and supervise
project research assistants and student officers, database development and
maintenance, research data entry, cleaning and analysis; assistance with
development and implementation of final project products, and proposal
development for new funding.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Participate
in both Suubi Adherence and Bridges studies under the direction of the
supervisor (the PI), including travel to primarily Uganda (and other possible
sub-Saharan African countries) for research related work; assist with IRB
protocol creation, submission and follow up; assist with developing data
collection instruments; conduct literature reviews on relevant topics; manage
and monitor systems that track study participants; create qualitative and
quantitative databases; track and take action on new funding program
announcements from the Federal government and from private institutions; and
work with the PI to prepare proposals for funding; other duties as assigned by
PI. 55%</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black" lang="EN-CA">-Perform</span><span style="color:black"> research-related tasks including data entry, cleaning and
database maintenance. Assist in the preparation of reports and preparation of
and creation of content for manuscripts for publication, and prepare conference
materials. 20% </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Assist
with outreach and dissemination activities of study outcomes and results both
in publications and at conferences</span><span style="color:red"> </span><span style="color:black">under the supervision of the PI. Plan and attend meetings
with study partners that are located both within the country and outside the
United States. 15%</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Supervise
and assist in the training of research assistants and MSW students involved in
the project. 10%</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">The
position requires a high degree of independent judgment, individual initiative
and discretion. The incumbent is expected to work independently but with
ongoing supervision from the PI, and in collaboration with research partners. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:5pt"><span style="color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:5pt"><span style="color:black">Minimum Requirements: </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Master’s
in Social Work, Public Health, Psychology or relevant social science field.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify"><span style="color:black">-The candidate must be familiar with rights management of
copyrighted materials, and how to obtain rights and permissions as
needed. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Research
experience, especially with an understanding of human subjects research and
ethical issues.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Willingness
and ability to work with public health clinics and schools in rural areas of
Uganda and other sub-Saharan African countries. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Experience
participating in the development of a research program, its implementation and
evaluation.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Ability
to use quantitative statistical data analysis programs (such as SPSS and Stata)
to enter and analyze data; ability to use qualitative data analysis programs
(such as Atlas. Ti.)</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Strong
organizational skills; strong academic writing and verbal communication skills;
and a working knowledge of proposal writing.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Proficiency
in using Microsoft Office applications.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black"><br>
Preferred Qualifications: </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:rgb(34,34,34)">-Prior
work with international focused research and knowledge of field research in
sub-Saharan Africa is desirable.</span><span style="color:black"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Knowledge
of the local culture of Uganda and its neighboring African countries.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style><span style="color:black">-Ability
to communicate with study participants using the local language (i.e., Luganda)
will be an added advantage.</span></p>
