            Studies group at London School of Economics is now welcoming
            applications for <b>four studentships </b>in
            Demography/Population Studies for entry in October 2015. The
            studentships cover the full fees and a stipend. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

              prospects: </span></b><span style="font-size:11.5pt">Recent
            graduates from Demography/Population Studies PhD programmes
            have gone onto pursue academic careers, postdoctoral
            fellowships, senior consultancy roles and government jobs in
            the UK and overseas. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
        <p class="Default"><b><span style="font-size:11.5pt">Research
              environment: </span></b><span style="font-size:11.5pt">The
            Department of Social Policy is the longest established in
            the UK and has received the highest possible rating in all
            Research Excellence Framework studies carried out in the UK.
            Academic personnel come from a range of disciplines and
            include an expanding group of demographers and population
            scientists. PhD students in Demography/Population Studies
            will join a thriving group of research students, with an
            excellent research environment, including fortnightly
            research seminars organised by PhD students. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

            accepting applications for the 1+3 and +3 Economic and
            Social Research Council (ESRC) studentship schemes. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

            Methods (Population), </span><span style="font-size:11.5pt">followed

            provides funding for a one year research training MSc linked
            to a three year PhD and is designed for students who have
            not already completed an ESRC-recognised programme of

            style="font-size:11.5pt;color:blue">MPhil/PhD in Demography
            / Population Studies <o:p></o:p></span></p>

        <p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt">The + 3 scheme
            provides three years funding for the MPhil/PhD programme for
            students who have already achieved an ESRC recognised
            'research training' MSc in the relevant field or have
            undertaken equivalent research training. ESRC awards
            comprise of tuition fees plus a stipend for living expenses.
            <o:p></o:p></span></p>
        <p class="Default"><span style="font-size:11.5pt">Transfer from
            one-year MSc programme to the three-year MPhil/PhD programme
            is dependent on achieving high marks in the MSc. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

            For those wishing to apply for a 1+3 studentship an upper
            second or first class honours degree from a UK university or
            its equivalent abroad is required. 1+3 candidates for the
            MPhil/PhD Demography/Population Studies programme should
            apply for the </span><span
            style="font-size:11.5pt;color:blue">MSc Social Research
            Methods (Population) </span><span style="font-size:11.5pt">and
            include an outline research proposal of up to 1,500 words.
            All completed applications will be sent to the Department of
            Social Policy to be considered by the Population Studies PhD
            Committee. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
        <p class="Default"><i><span style="font-size:11.5pt">+3
              Studentships </span></i><span style="font-size:11.5pt">–
            For those wishing to apply for the +3 studentship, the
            Department welcomes applications from students who have, or
            expect to obtain, a good ESRC-recognised MSc degree or
            comparable research training in the relevant field, together
            with an upper second or first class honours degree from a UK
            university or its equivalent abroad. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

            will normally need MSc degree marks equivalent to an LSE
            high merit grade, with an overall average of 65% in their
            MSc (or equivalent) and 65% in their dissertation (or

            MPhil/PhD programme will be subject to obtaining such marks.

            will be made on the basis of academic merit and research
            potential. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
