Contract Researcher Position Summary<br>
<br>
The focus of the contract researcher position is to assist current Center<br>
researchers in implementing the Resident Outlook Survey portion of Forecast<br>
LA.<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
Job Duties<br>
<br>
* Develop literature review for baseline quality of life survey in<br>
Los Angeles<br>
<br>
* Design sampling methodology for survey of residents 18 & older in<br>
Los Angeles County with oversample of city of Los Angeles residents<br>
<br>
* Develop survey questions in line with previous Center research<br>
<br>
* Clean and process data after data collection is complete<br>
<br>
* Conduct preliminary quantitative data analysis on survey data<br>
immediately after dataset is processed<br>
<br>
* Prepare dissemination report for Forecast LA<br>
<br>
* Conduct extensive quantitative data analysis on survey data in<br>
the following weeks<br>
<br>
* Prepare reports post-Forecast LA<br>
<br>
* Prepare and present analysis in class presentations and<br>
conferences<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
Minimum Qualifications<br>
<br>
* Bachelor's degree with current or previous enrollment in Master's<br>
degree in a relevant academic discipline; or four to five years of relevant<br>
experience;<br>
<br>
* Proven ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative data<br>
analyses using various techniques and data sources, and manage various<br>
aspects of complex research projects.<br>
<br>
* Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of theory and methods in<br>
political science, urban/intercultural studies, sociology, or related social<br>
science field required, as is the ability to apply this expertise in<br>
teaching and research in higher education.<br>
<br>
* Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced<br>
by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries<br>
incorporating complex, highly technical information.<br>
<br>
* Must possess strong research, teaching, and training skills.<br>
<br>
* Demonstrated computer competency and preferably knowledgeable of<br>
Microsoft Office systems and statistical applications (such as Stata or R).<br>
<br>

Additional Notes on the Position Requirements<br>
<br>
* Work may be performed at a location of the researcher's choice.<br>
<br>
* Researcher must be able meet for meetings on campus during normal<br>
business hours.<br>
<br>
* Work may be completed according to researcher's schedule. A<br>
timeline with individual project component deadlines will be provided.<br>
<br>
* Payments will be issued after the satisfactory completion of each<br>
of the individual project components.<br>
<br>
* Term of work runs from date of contract until May 15, 2014.<br>

About Forecast LA & the Resident Outlook Survey<br>
<br>
Forecast LA is an annual conference that brings together some of Southern<br>
California's most respected minds in economic forecasting and public-opinion<br>
survey research for a lively and enlightening discussion of the most<br>
important challenges facing us today. The conference is a joint venture<br>
between LMU's Thomas and Dorothy Leavey Center for the Study of Los Angeles<br>
and Beacon Economics, an LA-based economic research and consulting firm.<br>
Leveraging the Center's expertise in public opinion surveys with Beacon<br>
Economics' unique modeling approach, Forecast LA is distinguished by its<br>
highly contextualized, multi-pronged approach, in which economic trends are<br>
projected through the lens of public opinion. Forecasters analyze economic<br>
trends in the context of attitudes and expectations of both government<br>
leaders and members of the public whose everyday lives are affected by the<br>
state of the economy and current political climate. The results of two<br>
important opinion surveys, both conducted by the Center, will be unveiled<br>
and discussed at the conference. The Resident Outlook Survey queries 1,600<br>
Los Angeles County residents about their personal finances, quality-of-life<br>
concerns, expectations for the local economy, and other civic and political<br>
issues.<br>
