Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship<br>
<br>
The New School for Social Research invites applications for an<br>
interdisciplinary one-year Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship to begin July 1,<br>
2014. The New School for Social Research is dedicated to progressive<br>
scholarship grounded in history and informed by a rich legacy of critical<br>
thought and civic engagement. The Mellon Fellow will be appointed in the<br>
Sociology department of NSSR, and will be expected to offer an undergraduate<br>
and a graduate course (one each semester), preferably with interdisciplinary<br>
reach, on a topic related to their own scholarship. In addition to teaching,<br>
the Fellow will be expected to conduct research on a proposed topic with the<br>
mentorship and (where possible) collaboration of at least one member of the<br>
NSSR faculty, and to become actively engaged in the intellectual life of the<br>
NSSR during the period of their fellowship.<br>

We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to studying significant<br>
issues in the topic areas and methods that are represented in the Sociology<br>
Department at the New School for Social Research, with the rigor and spirit<br>
that characterize the school. These areas and issues include: social<br>
inequalities; culture and politics; law, rights, and citizenship; historical<br>
and comparative sociology; and cities and publics. The Mellon Fellow will<br>
have completed their PhD within the five years preceding July 1, 2014.<br>
Individuals from groups historically under-represented in higher education,<br>
and international candidates, are encouraged to apply.<br>

the following should be posted in the "other document" section: 1) brief<br>
descriptions of proposed undergraduate and graduate courses, 2) a concise<br>
[2-3 pages] proposal for a research project to be undertaken during the term<br>
of the Fellowship 3) indication of at least one but no more than three<br>
potential faculty collaborators who have expertise relevant to your proposed<br>
research project, 4) a graduate school transcript, 5) a writing sample, and<br>
6) the names of three references.<br>
