Behavioral Science Training in Drug Abuse Research<br>
<br>
PURPOSE: This postdoctoral program supports behavioral scientists<br>
<<a href="http://www.ndri.org/jobs/bstinfo.html#bsci" target="_blank">http://www.ndri.org/jobs/bstinfo.html#bsci</a>> who seek to expand their<br>
skills and publications, so as to develop careers in advanced research in<br>
the areas of drug use/ misuse and HIV/AIDS.<br>
<br>
THE RESEARCH AND TRAINING EXPERIENCE: Postdoctoral Fellows will develop<br>
knowledge of and skills in behavioral aspects of drug abuse research through<br>
hands-on experience and formal training. Working closely with senior project<br>
directors in New York city (see sponsoring organization<br>
<<a href="http://www.ndri.org/jobs/bstinfo.html#sorg" target="_blank">http://www.ndri.org/jobs/bstinfo.html#sorg</a>> ), Fellows participate in<br>
on-going research and develop their own research projects. Examples of<br>
on-going projects include studies related to drug abuse and crime,<br>
intravenous drug use, HIV/AIDS, prenatal and maternal drug use, treatment of<br>
mentally ill drug abusers, teen drug use and psychosocial health, and<br>
evaluations of drug treatment programs. In-house training emphasizes field<br>
data collection, statistical analysis, computer use, program evaluation,<br>
professional writing for publication, proposal writing, policy-making, and<br>
the practical application of these skills. Fellows are encouraged to carry<br>
out research projects of their own choosing and submitting grant proposals<br>
for funding. In addition, Fellows may enroll at universities in the New York<br>
City metropolitan area to take advanced courses on drug abuse research,<br>
related substantive topics, and research methodologies as deemed necessary<br>
to round out their expertise. Postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded<br>

POSTDOCTORAL BENEFITS: Fellows will receive an annual stipend based upon the<br>
number of years experience (see below) after completion of their doctoral<br>
degree, health insurance, tuition and fees, and a modest amount for travel<br>
and research-related expenses. Postdoctoral fellowship appointments are made<br>
for one year and are renewable for a second year, based upon satisfactory<br>
progress.<br>

POSTDOCTORAL APPLICATION: While it is not essential to have done research on<br>
drug abuse or HIV/AIDS, candidates<br>

must have completed their doctorates and have a serious interest in a career<br>

In the letter of interest, Postdoctoral Applicants are asked to provide<br>

* When did you obtain your doctoral degree (please indicate month and<br>
year)? If you haven't already graduated, when did you deposit your<br>
dissertation in the university library, or when are you planning to defend<br>
your dissertation?<br>
* What was the title of your dissertation? Please provide an abstract.<br>
<br>
* What is the research agenda that you would like to work during a<br>
postdoctoral fellowship?<br>
* Are you working? If so, indicate the number of hours per week. If<br>
you are awarded a fellowship, do you plan to or will you need to work/teach<br>
to supplement your stipend? If so, about how many hours per week? About how<br>
much will you earn in the next year?<br>
* Will you be receiving any fellowships, stipends, or similar income?<br>
Does such support come from Federal Funds, even if routed through another<br>
institution?<br>
* Have you previously been supported by a National Research Service<br>
Award (a T32 grant)? If so, at what level (predoc or postdoc), and what was<br>
the period of support?<br>
* If there is anything else you would like to add please feel free to<br>
