The Department of Sociology at the University of California, Santa<br>
Barbara invites applications for a position in social demography<br>
(broadly construed) at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a<br>
scholar who could help build a strong sociological presence in UCSB's<br>
new interdisciplinary Broom Center for Demography and increase the<br>
Department's teaching capacity in quantitative methodology. The ideal<br>
candidate will have an active research agenda, a strong commitment to<br>
quality teaching, and a substantive research agenda that complement<br>
one or more of the Department's core areas of strength.<br>
<br>
The following demographic phenomena are of particular interest:<br>
national and transnational migrant flows; racial, ethnic, gender, and<br>
economic inequalities; trends in sexual behavior, marriage and family<br>
structures; trends and inequalities in crime and punishment; trends<br>
and inequalities in health and psychological well being; divisions of<br>
labor within households and workplaces; and processes of national and<br>
transnational diffusion (e.g., of cultural beliefs and identity<br>
categories, social and consumption practices, organizational forms,<br>
laws and regulations, collective action and movements).<br>
<br>
We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the<br>
diversity and excellence of the academic community through research,<br>
teaching, and service. Applications received before October 15, 2011<br>
will receive full consideration, although the position will remain<br>
open until filled. Applicants should submit a letter of interest,<br>
curriculum vitae, samples of recent publications and syllabi, and a<br>
