Dear Professor Goldstein,

  I apologize for the intrusion, but I’m attempting to send this position
announcement to a few people at pop centers on the West Coast. I would be
grateful if you were able to distribute this announcement to students or
others who might be interested in a position that is more applied, but also
involves teaching. Perhaps there is also a set of people in the statistical
computing section of your center that might know of interested candidates.





   I am writing to let you know about a position that has just been posted.
The Sociology Department at Western Washington University is hiring a
director for our Center for Social Science Instruction/Demographic Research
Lab. It will be a position that combines teaching, administration, and
other activities related to publishing and grant-writing. It will not come
with research expectations. Although it will not be on the tenure line,
employment will be configured with a relatively longer term contract. Our
goal is to attract candidates with strong teaching and coding skills who
can be a resource for students and faculty. Ideally we will identify
candidates who are attracted to this mix of responsibilities. You will see
the minimum degree is a Masters rather than a PhD.
