Vice President Business Development - AmeriSpeak



JOB DESCRIPTION:



NORC’s AmeriSpeak Panel seeks a proven business development professional
with expertise in survey research and an understanding of the critical need
for high quality data to inform policy decision making.  This is a newly
created and high-visibility position for driving revenue growth for
AmeriSpeak.  The successful candidate will have a proven track record in
survey research-based business development with non-Federal, private sector
and not-for-profit clients such as membership organizations, trade
associations, think tanks and policy organizations, public relations and
communications firms, and agenda-driven organizations based in the greater
Washington, DC area.  Familiarity with Federal sector buyers of survey
research services is recommended but not essential.



The successful candidate will function as the Washington DC sphere leader
for AmeriSpeak business development.  Passion for developing client
relationships, survey-based technical acumen, and a talent for
research-based consulting are keys to success.  Compensation will be based
on both a base salary and performance-based incentives.

NORC’s AmeriSpeak® is the first U.S. multi-client household panel to
combine the speed and cost-effectiveness of panel surveys with enhanced
representativeness of the U.S. population, an approach designed to achieve
an industry-leading response rate, and an innovative sample quality report
card.  AmeriSpeak is the most scientifically rigorous household panel
solution available in the U.S., giving NORC clients a breakthrough new
option for conducting statistical surveys of the population.



AmeriSpeak is housed within NORC’s Business Ventures and Innovation (BVI)
group. This diverse team is dedicated to NORC’s future in the context of
accelerating change within the social science research industry. We are

RESPONSIBILITIES:



This position is dedicated to growing AmeriSpeak-centered revenue from
Washington DC-based public relations and communications firms, trade
associations and trade unions, membership organizations, etc.  The
position’s emphasis is on new client account development, as defined as
client accounts that have not sponsored AmeriSpeak projects in the past.



The position is also responsible for representing AmeriSpeak in
relationships with DC-based research firms to which we sell AmeriSpeak
services.



The position is responsible for serving as the AmeriSpeak expert who can
join NORC staff as the AmeriSpeak Panel technical expert for sales visits
made by NORC staff to federal agency, foundation, and other Washington
DC-based sponsors of survey research.



Regularly interacts with customers, senior and executive level management
concerning organizational issues; interactions require negotiations of
extremely complex, critical, and controversial matters; influences
policy-making; influences and persuades senior/executive level leaders.



REQUIRED SKILLS:



Must have Master’s degree or doctorate in a relevant social science field.



Ability to work in a collaborative style; ability to apply advanced
problem-solving techniques to complex and unique situations; ability to
think strategically and direct many critical projects or strategic
initiatives simultaneously.



Quantifiable business development acumen and track record.

At least 10 years’ of directly applicable work experience in a significant
management role; management of line of business or research group in a
nonprofit organization, research organization or government agency.



Selected candidate must reside in the greater DC area and be willing to
travel locally for client meetings.
