YouGov is looking for a Director of Scientific Research



Reporting to:      Managing Director of Scientific Research

Department:      Scientific Research Group / US Custom

Location:              San Francisco, CA

Status:                  Full-time Regular Exempt



This role within the Analytics team advises internal and external clients
on complex sampling designs, methodology, and advanced analytics.
Responsible for implementing methodology and analytics, this position
coordinates with the Director of Analytics to provide statistical services
and advice to all parts of the company.



We are looking someone who combines knowledge of applied statistics or
econometrics with strong computational skills (especially R, Python and
SQL), along with the ability to contribute to proposal writing and
presentations to clients. Working in a fast-paced and intellectually
stimulating environment where technically sophisticated solutions to
marketing, financial, and political problems are developed.



What will I be doing day to day?

• Provides senior level matching and weighting methodologies for academic,
political, and market research projects.

• Develops, integrates, and implements outside data, technologies, and
methods.

• Utilizes US Census data and other high-quality data sources to estimate
population targets and to create sampling frames for academic and political
surveys.

• Advises project managers and clients on data analytics, research design,
matching and weighting methodology machine learning, and data science
methodology.

• Performs database work utilizing SQL and Python.

• Coordinates external software, data matching services, and data
augmentation with third-party vendors.

• Answers questions concerning feasibility of research design or sample
frame for other hubs and custom teams.

• Signs off on client deliverables.



What do I need to bring with me?

• Master’s Degree, PhD preferred, in Statistics, Econometrics, Political
Science, Sociology, Social Science Methodology, or similar discipline.

• Three or more years’ experience in survey methodology and quantitative
research, especially sampling design and survey weighting.

• Three or more years’ experience in applied statistics or data analytics,
knowledge of linear regression, binary choice models, matching, resampling,
and missing data imputation.

• Three or more years’ experience in machine learning or data science,
specifically supervised and unsupervised models, natural language
processing, and Bayesian analysis desirable.

• Advanced programming knowledge in R and Python.

• Advanced knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL) and relational
databases.

• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively on a team
essential.
