> I’m emailing to reach out to you about a faculty position we are currently searching for at UNR in the hopes you might know some folks that would fit this position. Given the specialized nature of the position and the importance (to us) to build a strong Latinx Studies program of our own, we are recruiting through as many channels as we can.
>
> At UNR, we are making a concerted effort to develop Latinx Studies through our Gender, Race, Identity Program (GRI) and with other partnerships across campus. This position would primarily work within GRI to develop new curriculum/degree concentrations in Latinx and Indigenous studies, but would have some teaching and a tenure home in the Department of Communication Studies. Given the focus of your program, hopefully you might know someone who works primarily in Latinx Studies, but has some background in Communication, Rhetoric, or related studies.
>
> The University of Nevada, Reno announces an opening for a tenure-track joint position in Communication Studies and the Gender, Race, and Identity (GRI) Program at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in Latina/o communication studies. The successful candidate will have a strong background in interdisciplinary approaches and must have research and teaching interests in intersections of gender, race, class, ethnicity, sexuality or related areas.
>
> We invite applications from candidates whose research and teaching focuses on Latina/o studies from a variety of communication subfields including but not limited to rhetoric, performance, family communication, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, and/or critical theories. The successful candidate will have a strong background in some combination of research topics and methods that could include community-based research; critical race theory; border theories; queer theory; Latina identity; race, gender, and leadership; global Chicana and Latina feminisms, LGBTQ Latinx communication and culture; Latinx public advocacy and policy; participant action research (PAR); and/or interdisciplinary or intersectional work with critical/feminist/queer orientations.
>
> Applicants should submit the following materials electronically by October 18th, 2017: 1) a detailed letter of application which includes a statement on how you would contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through your research, teaching, and/or service, 2) current CV, 3) dissertation and/or research abstract, 4) brief statement of teaching philosophy (1 page), and 5) three professional references. Applications are due October 18 and can be submitted here: https://www.unrsearch.com/postings/25944
