>> Washington State University is seeking applicants for a tenure track (hard money), Associate Professor level position with the Initiative for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) – a new well-funded and supported entity focused on health disparities research among Native, Latino, and rural populations.  Within IREACH, the incumbent will primarily work with Partnerships for Native Health (P4NH), a program housed within IREACH that conducts community-centered research, training, education, and outreach to improve the health and quality of life of American Indian and Alaska Native populations. Over two decades, P4NH has developed a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to achieve our mission of improving the health and well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native people of all ages. We have done so by incorporating these core principles: engagement and participation with our community partners; education, training, and capacity building for Native people and communities; infrastructure development; technical assistance; research on healthcare and other community needs; and widespread sharing of our results in ways that recognize and respect the unique cultural contexts of American Indian and Alaska Native people.

>> P4NH has more than a dozen active NIH-funded research projects and centers under way with partners across the country, along with dozens of smaller efforts in research, education, and advocacy. Topics range from Alzheimer’s disease to health literacy; most of our work uses culturally tailored interventions. Our work also involves training Native scientists. For example, the Native Investigator Development Program is a career-building effort that trains American Indians and Alaska Natives in the skills and knowledge they need to launch careers as independently funded researchers in health sciences and health policy. Participants are selected among Native applicants who have already obtained an MD, a JD, or a PhD in a field related to health science or policy. Program personnel, resources, and activities originate from Washington State University in Seattle and the University of Colorado in Denver.

>> More recently, IREACH has initiated new collaborations with Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, Latino, and rural populations. We are actively extending our community-based approach to research and training efforts to these underserved populations in the coming years and are also seeking expertise in these areas.
