Position Description

The RAND Corporation’s Survey Research Group (SRG) is seeking a Senior
Survey Director with a strong commitment to RAND’s core values of quality
and objectivity.  This individual will need strong research design skills
for multiple modes of data collection, the ability to communicate clearly
and effectively in English, both orally and in writing and the ability to
work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.  We need someone
with demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior staff members, lead
survey project teams, handle significant budget responsibilities, including
subcontracts, participate in proposal writing and have a solid
understanding of the fundamentals of survey sampling.

Duties include but are not limited to:

-Research and Analysis/Research Management

   - Leading the design, planning, and implementation of data collection
   for policy research by providing direction and oversight for projects;
   e.g., instrument development,  oversight of data collectors, monitoring the
   budget and progress monitoring, quality control, project deliverables
   - May act as principal investigator for data collection or survey
   methods projects
   - Work directly with internal and external clients
   - Oversee the work of survey research staff
   - Conduct a range of qualitative and quantitative research
   - Collaborate with colleagues as part of multi-disciplinary teams
   - Develop and maintain client relationships to maintain project coverage
   and fulfill project commitments



-Project Initiation and Design

·         Contribute to and/or lead project proposals

   - Develop and maintain internal and external client base
   - Choose and apply research methodologies appropriate to problem and
   area of expertise



-Writing and Dissemination

·         Draft, edit and contribute to research papers and project reports





Qualifications

   - Must be able to work as part of research teams, interact with clients,
   community partners, and operations staff verbally and in writing
   - Experience with both quantitative and qualitative data collection
   methods is required.
   - Will oversee SRG personnel in data collection tasks
   - Microsoft Office
   - Experience with qualitative data coding software a plus
   - Bilingual Spanish or Chinese a plus

Education Requirements

MA/MS in a field relevant to public policy or social science research

Experience

9 years of experience; minimum 3 years of supervisory experience

Security Clearance

Must be able to get a U.S. government security clearance.

Location

Santa Monica (or Arlington, VA)
