* Senior Policy Analyst– U.S. Immigration Policy Program *



This senior position is with the U.S. Immigration Policy Program of the
Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nongovernmental think tank
dedicated to the study of migration policies in the U.S. and around the
world. The successful candidate will help shape immigration policy research
and analysis for MPI’s US and North America related work. The position
requires leadership and management skills, as well as knowledge of the
migration field. The Senior Policy Analyst works with a team to develop and
promote policy ideas pertinent to current public debates that improve the
effectiveness of the nation’s immigration system. Among other things, the
Program is examining the changing economic, demographic and other
assumptions underlying immigration debates; developing administrative and
legislative policy ideas on key immigration law and policy challenges, and
assessing the implementation and impacts of immigration enforcement
regimes. The position provides significant opportunities to grow in
expertise, public visibility, and thought leadership.



*Duties and Responsibilities:*

   - Serve as a lead member of MPI’s U.S. immigration team and assume broad
   responsibility for designing, managing, and executing policy research and
   analysis on US immigration issues and questions.

·       Develop and oversee new projects and the research methodologies to
implement them. Write research reports, as well as policy analysis pieces
in a variety of formats, including fact sheets, policy briefs, expert
testimony for Congressional hearings, and op-eds.

·       Represent MPI and promote its research and policy ideas in the
media and in public and private settings.

        Work within MPI’s senior management structure to identify and
pursue new funding opportunities, and maintain and build relationships with
funders.

   - Organize and lead private meetings and public events with senior
   government and elected officials – both U.S. and foreign - and civil
   society leaders.

·       Supervise the work of junior policy analysts, research assistants,
and interns and help guide their professional growth.



*Qualifications:*



*Required*

·       Advanced degree in political science, economics, sociology, public
policy, or a closely related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience
(3 years with a PhD) relevant to MPI’s work. Strong data skills preferred.

·       Experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams and
research.

   - The ability to analyze and explain policies and underlying factors
   affecting policies in plain English.


   - Willingness to take responsibility for fundraising and development

·       A record of publications in immigration policy fields

·       Strong organization, project management, and people skills.
Experience in public speaking and media interviews and appearances.



*Strongly Preferred*

   - Professional fluency in Spanish.
   - Understanding of the role of labor market dynamics, politics,
   demographics and other factors in shaping immigration policy and
   administration.
   - Experience working with U.S. decision-makers and opinion leaders in
   migration and related fields
   - Experience with analysis of administrative data sets.
   - Familiarity with North American issues, particularly involving Mexico
   and Central America.
