The Fogarty International Center (FIC; www.fic.nih.gov) is seeking two
Health Scientist Administrators (Program Directors) to provide scientific
leadership and manage global health grant portfolios in the Division of
International Training and Research. Expertise in HIV/AIDS research and
research training is desired for one position and non-communicable diseases
research and research training expertise is desired for a second position,
although qualified candidates are expected to be able to work across a wide
spectrum of global health research areas. Besides having the flexibility
and intellectual curiosity to work across discipline boundaries, qualified
individuals should also have the ability to collaborate widely, both within
NIH and outside the agency, and to work effectively as both a team member
and team leader.



FIC is particularly interested in individuals with research or research
training experience in low- or middle-income countries and with strong
interests in the development of research career pathways for scientists
from low-and middle-income countries.  Additionally, ideal candidates will
have experience managing extramural research programs and writing funding
opportunity announcements or other grant solicitations.



Responsibilities include:

   - Provide technical leadership and guidance in HIV/AIDS research and
   research training or non-communicable disease research and research

   - Identify and formulate program needs to achieve an integrated and
   responsive effort in the assigned area
   - Perform scientific and administrative reviews and analyses of
   applications from a programmatic viewpoint
   - Organize and conduct workshops, conferences, symposia to foster the
   aims of the Division
   - Actively contribute to Division-wide and Center-wide efforts to
   address over all extramural program needs
   - Establish and maintain effective collaborative and working
   relationships within FIC and NIH and with other government agencies,
   research institutes, and organizations
   - Consult with and advise grantees during preparation of applications
   and provide guidance on program issues
   - Develop, coordinate and administer grants, cooperative agreements, and
   contracts established to fulfill the mission of the Division
   - Visit universities, research institutions, commercial organizations,
   other government agencies, and public and private organizations to promote
   and explain the objectives of the program.
