The Department of Sociology at Florida State University invites
applications for a position in the new interdisciplinary Program on Aging
and Social Change, located within the Pepper Institute on Aging and Public
Policy. The Program is seeking an assistant or associate professor who will
have a tenure-earning or tenured appointment in the Department of
Sociology. Successful candidates are expected to have a record offunded
research and commitment to interdisciplinary research on aging-related
policy issues. Aging societies impact nearly all institutions – the
government, family, economy, medicine, education, military, and mass media,
among many others. The social changes accompanying an aging society,
including the policy responses to them and their consequences for aging
individuals, will be the focus of the Program. The position will complement
one or more of the Pepper Institute’s four research areas: (1) aging and
health disparities, (2) pathways to later life, (3) transportation and
neighborhoods, and (4) politics of aging and health.

Job Posting – Appalachian State, Department of Sociology



The Department of Sociology invites applications for a tenure-track
nine-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning
August 2016.  The position requires a Ph.D. in Sociology.  Candidates who
are ABD will be considered, however the position requires completion of all
doctoral requirements in Sociology by September 15, 2016.  Instructional
duties typically include a 3:3 teaching load, student advising, curriculum
development, and may entail online instruction.  Faculty members are
expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as
participate in service activities.



This tenure-track position requires a specialization focusing on the
intersections of health and social inequalities. Preference will be given
to candidates whose research specifically focuses on health and
racial/ethnic inequalities, and who can contribute to building a curricular
emphasis in Health & Social Inequalities.



Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus
University of North Carolina System.  Located in the scenic mountains of
Boone, North Carolina, the university has approximately 18,000 students,
primarily in bachelors and master programs in both liberal arts and applied
