Research and National Fellowships

Job Description

The Assistant Director is responsible for administrative and
programmatic tasks related to the Undergraduate Research Office (URO)
and the Fellowships and Scholarships Office (FSO). The offices
increasingly work together to offer Carnegie Mellon students an
opportunity to compete internally for undergraduate research awards
and externally for selected national and international fellowships and
scholarships. The position includes: sophisticated analytical,
organizational and problem solving skills; ability to work under
pressure and handle diverse relationships on and off campus;
gathering, analyzing and disseminating a range of data and
information; ability to generate new ideas and approaches based on
varying sources of information; identifying, advising, and assisting
students; reading proposals and applications; working with faculty and
staff across multiple disciplines; building connections with a
national network of professions connected to undergraduate research
and fellowships/scholarships. The Assistant Director is responsible
for working closely with students from the STEM disciplines. The
Assistant Director helps develop and carry out studies to improve the
delivery of services from the URO and FSO to all of the disciplines
across campus. The Assistant Director develops courses and workshops
that advance the programmatic aspects of the URO and FSO. The
Assistant Director expands connections to faculty members, looking for
ways to build relationships and integrate the URO and FSO offices more
fully with the academic purposes and activities of the university.



Qualifications

Master's degree required, PhD or terminal degree in field preferred
Background in STEM fields highly desirable
Experience with fellowships and scholarships, and/or undergraduate
research desirable
Experience working with college-age students in advising and/or
teaching capacities
Ability to work well with a culturally diverse student body; ability
to work with a wide range of faculty and staff at a Research I
University
Strong writing and communication skills
